The group encourages car sharing, but since Covid we have found that members typically make private arrangements, rather than meeting together at a pre-arranged car share location. A walk leader may occasionally specify a car share for a particular reason (for example, to enable a shuttle for a linear walk), but normally members will need to make their own arrangements.
If you do not already have someone to share with, the best way to arrange a lift is by posting a message on Plymouth Ramblers Facebook page, at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1554255671486255/. You will need to join the FB group, and there is no guarantee you will always get a ride. But after you have been walking a while with Plymouth Ramblers you will have a better idea of other members who live near you and may be interested in car sharing.
Some members have asked for guidance on the amount that passengers should contribute to the cost of the journey. As a rough guide, we suggest a basic 35p a mile to cover petrol, with the addition of any parking, ferries or tolls; the total should be shared equally between driver and passengers.
The carshare locations that we used in the past may still be useful for drivers who plan to meet up and drive together to the start of the walk. The maps below show these places, where it is possible to park free for the whole day.
