Plymouth Ramblers

Before you can submit a walk on Walks Manager, you need to become a registered walk leader. Refer to How to become a walk leader. Please bear in mind that it can take approximately a week to become registered as a walk leader. You also need to update your contact preferences, see How to update your contact preferences.

Choose a date

  1. Go to https://walks-manager.ramblers.org.uk and at the top of the screen, choose List view, Calendar view or Table view, whichever you prefer. (It's a good idea to bookmark this webpage.)
  2. Scroll down to choose a date which is free for your walk, avoiding two similar walks on the same day.

Add a walk

3. At the top right of the screen, click on Create, then Add a walk
4. Fill in the title, date and time of your walk.
5. Select Plymouth group, then click your name in the list of walk leaders. Note: if you are using a mobile phone or a tablet, you will need to turn it into landscape mode, to be able to select the walk leader.
6. At the bottom of the screen, click Save and continue. Your walk is now saved in Walks Manager as a draft.

Describe your walk

  1. Write a description of your walk, following the advice given on screen in What makes a good walk description? * You can also refer to Writing a walk description.
  2. Do not use the Additional details box to describe your walk, only for extra information that walkers will need to know to join the walk.
  3. Click the relevant buttons for Facilities, Transport and Accessibility.
  4. Add your own photos if you like. Don’t use copyright images.
  5. At the bottom of the screen, click Save and continue.

Give location details

  1. If you are including carshare, check the box for My walk has a separate meeting point, and then insert the Meeting time.
  2. Choose the Starting point tab and in the box labelled Enter a starting point, type a rough location (eg. a village name). The pointer on the map will jump to this location.
  3. Use the mouse to grab the pointer and move it to the exact starting point for your walk.
  4. Under Location Details, type a brief description of the starting point – this is what ramblers will read in your walk description.
  5. If you are including carshare, go back and choose the Meeting point tab. Repeat the steps above to indicate where the carshare is.

Specify grading

  1. Select the grade for your walk and fill in the boxes showing Distance, Ascent and Estimated finishing time. If in doubt, follow the advice provided on screen.
  2. At the bottom of the screen, click Save and continue.

Finalising your walk

  1. In the Walk editor panel on the right of the screen, click Preview to see how your walk will appear on screen.
  2. If you want to change anything, look at the Walk editor panel, and click on one of the subheadings - Basic information, Description, Location or Grading. This will return you to that section, where you can edit the details.
  3. When you are ready, click on Submit for checking. We will check your walk and contact you if there is any problem. Otherwise, your walk will be published within the next few days.
