AGM 2021
On Monday 25th October 36 members gathered for our annual AGM. Apologies were received from 11 members.
We were heartened to see so many members and especially pleasing was to see so many of our newer members. Thank you all for your input, comments and positivity.
All agreed that the church was a very suitable venue - warmer and cosier than the hall. Setting everything up was easier as was gaining access!
Refreshments went down well - having wrapped items saved a lot of work!!
Members have been sent the minutes and reports.

Dunterton River Walk
Sunday 17th October
Many of you have done the River Walk in aid of Dunterton Church and it has been arranged again this year.
The route is completely different from previous walks but again the local landowners have given the necessary permissions this year to start and finish in Dunterton and dispense with the shuttle.
The walk includes much of that part of the riverside as previously walked. As before there is no entry fee but organisers are asking for donations.
There will be plenty of parking and it will no doubt be well signed as always - just turn up between 11 am and 1 pm for a new circular walk.

Rhossili Trip
Nineteen Ramblers headed to the Gower peninsula for three days of walking in what turned out to be beautiful weather. We stayed at a comfortable bunkhouse in Rhossili, and enjoyed two dinners in local pubs, takeaway fish and chips, and a potluck spread in the bunkhouse. There were two walks along the coast, a linear one from Port Eynon to Rhossili, and another from Rhossili to Hillend, returning over Rhossili Down and the highest point on the Gower. The third day was spent walking mainly in the varied scenery of the Penrice estate, including woodland, parkland, sand dunes and reed beds. All in all a great holiday, particularly welcome after the restrictions of the pandemic. Thanks to Martin, Joy and Val for organising it all.

Comedy Tour Update
Our first real social event since lockdown was with Plymouth Comedy Tours. A group of Ramblers booked for the same time, and we set off with our two guides, both of whom were professional comedians with a keen eye for the absurdities of Plymouth life. We ambled around a route that took in the Jigsaw Gardens (who knew?), the Sexual Health Clinic and various architectural carbuncles. On the way we were regaled with some horrible histories and pertinent jokes, while at the same time we had to fill in our Plymouth Bingo cards by spotting items such as a busker, a skateboarder falling over, a seagull on the sundial or a conspiracy poster. I doubt any of us have laughed so much during a trip to the city centre.

Please can you let Frances Horder know if you will be going & she will work out where we can go afterwards.

Message from Burrator
Last year Plymouth Ramblers donated to Burrator Discovery Centre's project to create an easy access path suitable for wheelchair users. We've just received the following message from Emily Cannon, who was in charge of the project:
Dear Plymouth Ramblers,
I hope this finds you well.
Thank you ever so much again for your donation towards our easy access footpath project at Burrator Reservoir.
We are pleased to tell you that we achieved our fundraising total. Your donations helped us pay for a contractor to carry out the large scale digging and materials. Our Burrator volunteers carried out the rest of work and completed the footpath in June 2021.
Please find attached a collage to show us carrying out the work.
Thank you ever so much again, & best wishes,
Emily

Update on covid restrictions
Good news - we can start to get back to normal! Here is the latest advice from the Ramblers:
The UK government roadmap for lifting lockdown means people in England can now walk together outside. Ramblers group walks and volunteer activities can also resume, following Covid-secure guidance.
- Walking with family & friends: Groups of up to thirty can get together for informal walks.
- Ramblers group walks: Covid-secure group walks are classified by the UK government as ‘organised physical activities’ and can take place in any number – please check with your local group. Car-sharing and coach rambles can resume.
- Path maintenance: Covid-secure path maintenance can take place – please check with your local group.
- Other Ramblers activities: Covid-secure activities can take place – please check with your local group. Events, training and committee meetings should be held outdoors or online where possible.
We can now return to normal with our organised walks, with unlimited numbers and with car-share. However, it is important that each walk leader is comfortable with the way their walk is organised. So if they wish, they may choose to take extra precautions, by setting their own limit on group size, or by asking walkers to book in advance. In this case, the restrictions should be stated in the walk description.
